A joint proclamation signed by the governor of. tight cotton states urging farmers, merchants, bankers and business man to organize an hold cotton for not leas than 15 cents a pound, middling basis, was issued here tonight through J. j. Brown, president of the cotton states ; official advisory marketing board. The proclamation, an en dorsement of the recommendations made by the board here November 7, termed auch a price "equal to the cost of production plus a fair profit." "The recent heavy break in cotton prices." the proclamation said, "is wholly. unjustified by existing condi tion and the. great disturbance inci dent to the break in the market has temporarily paralysed the agricultural and business interests of the south and entailed heavy loss to the cotton produoer by reason of the price being below the cost of production." Selling of cotton for 85 cents was lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!lllllllu Character t the Baits er Credit "United We Faa, ' Divided, We Succeed" Tou will Instantly say that we have the above all wrong. Marr.-J. W. Moore. T. C. 8ter.ts are named as the evangelistic committee. B. II. Heath Gives. $20,000. The conference convened at I o'clock with Bishop Darlington pre siding. After the reading and correc tion of the minutes of the previous session, the report of the children's home was read by the secretary 6f the conference. Among other - Items of interest was the announcement that .Mr. B. D. Heath, of Charlotte, had given $20,000 to the endowment of this great and growing institution of the conference. Dr. E. O. Watson., secretary of the war work commission, was lntroduoed and addressed the conference upon the work that he has In hand. Eight young men to be received in to full connection in the conference presented themselves at the bar of the conference, and Bishop Darling ton delivered an address freighted with sound advice and weighty words of Gospel truth delivered with unction and in the spirit of tenderness and sympathy. "This is a very solemn moment with you young men," began the bishop, "as you this day stand at the bar of an annual conference in the world. ' Make up your minds here today to 1 dedicate yourself without reserve to j the church of God. j "What the church needs these days are prophets, men who know the mind , of God and can speak for Him with authority. "If your conception of Christ be of j Him as a mere man, you ought to sit ; down. Have faith in Christ as God. ( "Will you give yourself wholly to the ministry? It will be a sad day when you allow yourself to be side tracked. "Know the deep things of God and Ihe kingdom, but don't get the idea of profundity In your voice. ."We need great preachers but you become such, if you do, by the study of both books and men. "Keep a conscience on money and don't get in debt." At the close of the bishop's very fine and helpful address, H. G. Allen, W. I Scott, 1. W. Combs, J. E. B. Houser, T. J. Huggins, K. L. Kirk, J. L. Smith, J. C, Smith were received inte the conference. Bishop Kilgo spoke for the Washn Ington city representative church and, for the board of church extension, ?'
